INSTALLING THE XCELR8R SOFTWARE v 1.11 UNDER DOS

These instruction apply to an owner of the XCELR8R. If you have downloaded the software from our website, simply run the program xclelr8r.exe to see its features.

We have made the following assumptions: the floppy is in drive A: and the hard drive is C:

indicates pressing "ENTER" or "RETURN", and _ indicates a space between letters.

To install the software:

1) Place the floppy in Drive A:

2) Type C: (makes the hard drive the "active drive) md_\mindgear (creates a new directory called mindgear) cd_\mindgear (changes directory to mindgear) copy_A:*.* (copies all files to the mindgear directory)

Before you run the software:

1) Make sure your mouse & driver are installed per the manufacturers instructions.

2) Attach the XCELR8R to either the COM1 or COM2 serial port via the cables provided.

To run the software,

type: C: cd_\mindgear xcelr8r

The first time you run the software it will ask where you have attached the XCELR8R. If you have a mouse installed, this will usually be the COM 2 port. NOTE: The very first time you run the software, you may find that the mouse does not work. If this happens, you should exit the application and restart it. If you are not using a mouse, hold down the key and type the highlighted letter for the desired operation.

Once you have chosen the proper port (if in doubt, select one and see if it runs), you will see a screen that displays the XCELR8R's Personal Preference Settings as set by the factory. If you want to change any of the start-up settings, just go to the specific item and make the changes. Any changes you make on this Settings screen will automatically download to the XCELR8R after you click on OK. NOTE: If you are not using a mouse, the key will move you around to the different functions & the up/down keys will change the values.

TO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAM FROM YOUR PC TO THE XCELR8R

Select File from the menu bar. Select Send to XCELR8R. At the Choose a File for Downloading prompt, either type in a program name or select one from the list of available programs. (NOTE: Presently the Active Dir and Active Drive do not function). Click OK or press to accept your chosen program. At the Download into PGM # box, choose a User Program # and press . In a few seconds you should see the message Download Successful. The XCELR8R should now be able to display the Program# (U51-U60) you have assigned the downloaded session. NOTE: You MUST assign the next available USER number (U51-U60) in order for the XCELR8R to recognize the newly downloaded program. If you assign it a number higher than the next available, you will only be able to access it by specifying it (through the PC only) as your startup program on powerup.

On the program disk (copied onto your hard drive), we have included 16 new programs (in addition to all the built-in programs). Two are called balancer.prg and 10&18rmp.prg, The rest are called sample01.prg thru sample14.prg. You can practice the DOWNLOAD feature by selecting one of these & downloading it into Program# USER 51.

TO UPLOAD A PROGRAM FROM THE XCELR8R TO YOUR PC

Select File from the menu bar. Select Receive from XCELR8R. At the Upload Prog # prompt, choose the Program # you want to upload, then Click OK or press to accept it. Next you must name the uploaded file. Click OK or press to accept it. You should next see the Upload Successful message. NOTE: If the chosen program already exists, an overwrite box will appear asking you for a decision. Once uploaded, the program will reside on your hard drive, available for graphing or transfer, etc.

LOCKING/UNLOCKING THE XCELR8R

Select File. Select Lock XCELR8R. At Lock/Unlock prompt, choose Lock. Choose a Program# (U51-U60) and Click OK or press to accept it. You should now see the Unit is Locked message. Now only the chosen program will appear on the XCELR8R. Use this function if you wanted to restrict the use of the XCELR8R to a SINGLE custom program (U51-U60).

COPY/DELETE (File Maintenance)

Select File. Select Copy/Delete. At the Maintain Program Files prompt, either type in a program name or select one from the "available" list. Choose Copy or Delete. If you choose Copy, the File Copy prompt will appear, asking for a destination for the copied program. Type one in. You may even designate a drive and pathname. Click OK or press to accept it. If you choose Delete, select "yes" at the Are You Sure? prompt.

TO GRAPH A PROGRAM

Select Graph. Enter the name of the file you wish to graph, then Click OK or press . NOTE: The letters along the plot indicate the phasing as explained when you click on Legend.

TO DESIGN A NEW PROGRAM

Select Design. Select New. At the New Program prompt, type in a program name and accept. Then enter a Starting Frequency. A complete set of function buttons will appear. Near the top of the screen you will see "Program Space Remaining:(bytes) and Program Time: (up to 120 minutes)." As you make additions to the new program, these values will change. When the Frequency button is activated, a new Frequency Settings prompt will appear showing the Current Freq. and the New Freq. After specifying a New Freq., you can select either a direct (immediate) or ramp transition to the new frequency.

NOTE: There are two different TIME functions. There is the actual running time as set by the TIME button and a ramp time as set by the frequency Ramp function. The message "Frequency Ramp Active" will display near the top of the screen as long as the current actual running time is less than the specified frequency ramp time. If you try to enter another new frequency before the ramp time has finished, you will receive a message telling you that the frequency is ramping and asking if you would like to truncate (shorten) the ramp. When truncating a ramp, the program will automatically stop ramping & maintain whatever value was reached at the time it stopped.

You can change the values of the other functions by selecting the appropriate button and entering new values. In addition to the frequency, you can ramp the following functions: Volume, Intensity, and Pitch. SPECIAL NOTE: You cannot ramp volume, intensity, or pitch while ramping a frequency. Additionally, if ramping a function other than frequency, e.g. volume, the system will automatically extend the time of the current frequency until the volume ramp finishes.

EXAMPLE: You want to run 18 Hz for 1 min. and then have the frequency ramp to 12 Hz for 2 minutes and have the phase change from left/right to alternate light during the first minute and from alternate light to simultaneous for the second minute. To accomplish this, first enter 18 Hz (no ramp) with the Frequency button and enter 1 min. with the Time button. Then go back to the Freq. button and enter 12 Hz with a ramp. You should then see a box that asks for a ramp time. Enter 120 secs (2 min.). Notice that the "Frequency Ramp Active: Time Left" message tells you that you have 2:00 minutes to use up. Then select Phase and choose Left/Right. Then select Time and enter 60 secs. You should now see that the "Frequency Ramp Active - Time Left" line above the box states that you have 1:00 remaining. Now go back to the Phase button and choose Alternate. Now go to Time and enter 60 secs. You can now graph the program and it will show the ramp with the appropriate letters that indicate the phase changes.

ENABLING THE BLEND FEATURE :

Although "Blend" appears in the box for Phase in the Design screen, it does not function. In order to enable the BLEND feature (smooth transitions between phase changes) you can either select it in the Settings box under File or select it at the XCELR8R before running the program.

CREATING AN AUTOPILOT PROGRAM

To generate a new program using the AutoPilot feature, select Design, and then select AutoPilot, and then choose one of the brain wave frequency ranges. Either accept the default name or type in a new name for the program you wish to generate. Once accepted, the new program will appear as a graph. To run the new program, either download it (under File select Sent to XCELR8R) or run it under Online Emulation (see next paragraph).

ONLINE EMULATION (Running a program from the PC without downloading):

Select Online. Select Emulation. At the "Choose a File to Run" prompt, select a file and accept. The program will soft-start and run. It will soft-off at the end. The program resides only on the PC.
